In Mortal
Kombat Conquest we are introduced to the character Kung Lao, who
defeated Shang Tsung 500 years before the game we know as
"Mortal Kombat" ever began. Mortal Kombat Conquest
shows the various challenges he and two friends of his, Taja and
Siro, had to go through to protect the Earth realm from the evil
Shao Khan and his minions. 
The show begins with Kung Lao entering the arena where he will fight Shao Khan's undefeated warrior, Shang Tsung. Both fighters stand face to face, and look to the Emperor Shao Khan to begin the fight.
The fight begins, Shang Tsung and Kung Lao fight evenly, neither able to surpass the skills of the other. After a while, Shang Tsung begins to win and gets in a few good hits, knocking Kung Lao to the ground. Shang Tsung prepares to finish off the unconcious Kung Lao, but the voice of his girlfriend, Jen, gives him the inspiration needed to fight back. He kicks Shang Tsung across the face and gets back up. The fight continues a little longer and it is clear Kung Lao is the victor. He knocks Shang Tsung down with an uppercut and stands over him, ready to finish the evil sorcerer.
At the very last moment, Kung Lao shows Shang Tsung mercy, and from that the show continues. Kung Lao and his friends must face incredible challenges if they wish to continue protecting the Earth.
